I went to the Heard Museum in Phoenix the other day – it’s my favorite museum in the world – and saw the American Indian Veterans Memorial for the first time. The sculptures are by Allan Houser (Chiricahua Apache, 1914-1994). The whole memorial is fascinating and moving.
There’s more info about the memorial and its opening back in November 2012 here.
And here’s the Heard Museum website. Everyone should go see the temporary exhibits on Chocolate, Chili, and Cochineal, Georgie O’Keeffe in New Mexico, and N. Scott Momaday. The museum’s permanent exhibits on Arizona’s tribes and on Indian Boarding Schools are also incredible.
